Sinn Féin will transform our education system into one that equips all of our children and young people for life - free to pursue their dreams and goals without barriers.

Education:

The next decade can deliver education that is truly free.

Sinn Féin will make free education a reality by cutting back-to-school costs, improving school transport, abolishing third-level fees, and offering equal access to all students, with no financial pressure.

Every child in Dublin has a right to an education in their own community and children with special needs must have access to local schools where they can flourish.

The demand for Irish language schooling in Dublin should be met. Sinn Féin’s overarching aim is to provide Irish language education at all levels, for those who seek it.

Our vision for Dublin includes:

  • Cutting the cost of uniforms, devices, books, and end the scandal of families feeling pressure to pay ‘voluntary’ contributions.

  • Expanding the Hot School Meal Scheme and introduce free schoolbooks for secondary schools.

  • Properly forecasting and planning for the number of school places needed for children with special educational needs.

  • Mandating schools to have special services in place and support schools in implementing these services.

  • Abolishing third-level fees.

  • Extending the Creative Schools programme so that all schools can participate.

  • Introducing free Irish language classes for adults;

  • Increasing SUSI Maintenance Grant by 15% and extend SUSI to Postgraduate Fees in 2025;

  • Introducing a bursary to assist Traveller & Roma students and Care Leavers;

  • Increasing capital funding to the Department of Education.

  • Increasing capital investment in Higher Education to deliver affordable student accommodation.
