Dublin’s transport system is a mess. Travelling around Dublin is a complete nightmare with people spending hours of their lives stuck in traffic on the way to work and school.
Transport:
Dubliner’s deserve better than the transport system delivered by decades of Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael.
Sinn Féin has a plan to invest significantly in our public transport system in order to drive down carbon emissions and create a safe, affordable, reliable and accessible public transport network for Dublin.
Addressing the underlying problems of cost, accessibility and safety is crucial to encouraging more people onto public transport. We want to deliver the total investment needed to make our train stations, bus stations and bus stops fully wheelchair accessible over 5 years.
Sinn Féin want to see a sustainable all-island transport system that enables the movement of people and goods locally, regionally and nationally at the least environmental, social, and financial cost. We want people of all ages and abilities to have access to green, affordable, accessible, safe and reliable public transport options across the city and county.
Our vision for Dublin includes:
Accelerating the ‘Greater Dublin Area Transport Strategy 2022 - 2042’, including the delivery of Metro North, and Luas to Finglas and Lucan.
More frequent, affordable and accessible public transport including more frequent bus routes and the expansion of 24 bus routes.
Making the temporary 20% fare reduction on public transport permanent and extending it to commercial operators, and making the 50% fare reduction for young people and students permanent.
Making public transport safer, including the establishment of a dedicated transport police.
Reforming and expanding our school transport system including 100,000 more school bus places.
Incentivising active travel by expanding Dublin Bikes, building more greenways and providing high-quality, pedestrian facilities and routes.
Halting the privatisation of the public transport system to ensure fair pricing, transparency and accountability and to reduce failures of delivery, like ghost buses.
Ensuring Dublin’s transport system is safe and accessible for disabled people.
Allowing for the use of credit, debit cards, or mobile devices as a means of payment on all public transport.
